Now in his second term as Delegate, Ken Kerr has spent his life helping children and adults get the education and training, knowledge and skills they need that lead to high paying jobs and careers. First as an elementary school teacher in the 80s, then changing sectors to teach computer skills, and then becoming a college professor teaching both underprepared and honors students, while providing leadership and mentoring.  

Here in Frederick, his home of over almost 50 years, Ken is active in the community. Ken is a musician, but his hands are also used to help his community. He can be seen atop a ladder fixing a roof, with a shovel or a rake or a broom, holding a hammer or a paintbrush, chest deep in Carroll Creek tending water lilies, planting trees in Point of Rocks, breaking ground for a new park or school, or packaging food for distribution to families in need.

After elected to the Board of Education, Ken found that much of what he wanted to do—expand career and technical education, reinvent high school, create and expand apprenticeship opportunities—can only be accomplished with cooperation from Annapolis. He ran for, and won a seat in the House of Delegates in 2018. He was re-elected in 2022, and is now seeking re-election to a third term. After his most recent re-election, Ken was appointed as chair to the powerful Government Operations and Health Facilities Subcommittee overseeing Cybersecurity, AI, State Procurement, Veterans Affairs, and Maryland’s 60 Hospitals.

Ken has traveled to different areas of the US and even overseas to bring back new ideas for successful and innovative apprenticeship programs. He proposed a Teacher Apprentice program for Frederick County Public Schools and also helped establish the FCC/FCPS Dual-Enrollment program which serves as a model for the state. He has traveled to Ireland meeting with government officials and business leaders successfully attracting businesses to establish their North American Operations in Maryland.

Ken's concern for keeping families healthy, providing access to living wage jobs, improving transportation and infrastructure, promoting and protecting agriculture, keeping our friends and neighbors safe, maintaining what is already working, and fixing what is not has been informed by all of these experiences and more.

We can address these priorities, work to find new solutions, and have our values reflected by keeping Ken in Annapolis to continue working for us and represent the hardworking families and individuals of District 3.
